Ten Beautiful Book Covers

I love books with beautiful and interesting covers. However, one should not judge a book by its cover. In the past, I have made that mistake too often, but I suppose I will do it again in the future. As I said in an earlier post, I can’t help it. Books with beautiful covers invite me to pick them up and purchase them. They manage to catch my eye and cast a spell on me. As soon as I see a pretty book cover, I begin to imagine how the book will be like. I begin to dream about all the wonderful and unforgettable places I will experience. Thus, I can’t simply put the book down, but have to purchase it.

Unfortunately, not all books are as wonderful as their covers are; therefore, I often feel disappointed by them. However, there are books out there that deliver what their covers promise.

Here are ten books that have pretty covers:

Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet: A Novel by Jamie Ford

The Rose of Sebastopol by Katharine McMahon

The Alchemist’s Daughter: A Novel by Katharine McMahon

The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry

A Walk with Jane Austen: A Journey into Adventure, Love, and Faith by Lori Smith

The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters

Daphne: A Novel by Justine Picardie

The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton

Things Worth Remembering by Jakina Stark

East of the Sun by Julia Gregson

Most of these ten books are on my reading list, not (just) because they have beautiful covers, but because I have read positive reviews about them and because I am interested in them.

What about you? Do you have any favorite book covers?

You are right, book covers can make or break a book. I am a pretty rigid person when it comes to my reading list. I rarely pick one up just because of a cover; I have to know it is not going to be a waste of my time! BTW, I just finished The Little Stranger on audio, and I thought it was brilliant. Talk about a perfect gothic spooky story taking place in a big stately mansion! I am now right in the middle of the audio of Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, which is also very good.

Sandy: I love gothic ghost stories and The Little Stranger is on my reading list. There are so many good books out there that I want to read right now, but unfortunately, I can’t purchase them all. I am going to order some new books soon and don’t really know which ones to choose. Well, I’ll definitely order Villette, since Charlotte Bronte is
one of my favorite authors. And maybe The Lace Reader, since the book sounds interesting.
Vivienne from Serendipity has some great reading suggestions on her blog:)

I have to admit I’m a sucker for a pretty book cover but if the synopsis doesn’t sound good then I won’t pick it up. I do find when I have a book that doesn’t have a very nice cover I keep it turned down so I don’t see it. lol. These covers here are all gorgeous-I have a few of them to read as well.

Oh a pretty cover and it is bought! I am a real sucker. I love the ones you chose. I have either read them or have them in my collection, all bar one – Things Worth Remembering.

That Daphne cover is absolutely delightful, the one I have in paperback is nice, but I think your one beats it a mile off. Its a book which insides are as beautiful as its outsides too! I hope you enjoy it!

    Hello Andreea!

Sandy told us about your lovely blog and I had to come and check it out for myself. Welcome to the blogging world! It is very addictive and I love it! I had my first anniversary about a month ago and it’s amazing how far I’ve come in that time.

Those really are beautiful covers and they really draw you in. Covers do attract me, but they aren’t the sole reason I buy the book. The synopsis has to be intriguing and I always read the first line. If that doesn’t pull me in, then I usually don’t get it. I can’t for the life of me think of a book I’ve bought just for the cover, but I have bought them for the feel of the paper and the heft of the book. Weird, huh?

Vivienne: I knew I was not the only one:)

Sheri: Thank you for stopping by!

Savidgereads: You are right, the Daphne cover is really beautiful. I can’t wait to read the book!

Susan Drummond: Thank you for stopping by Susan! No, it’s not weird that you’ve bought the books just for the feel of the paper and the heft of the book. I completely understand you. I like the smell of paper and the feel of it too:)

Those are all so pretty! Sadly, for me The Forgotten Garden was a huge disappointment.

One of my favourite recent covers is that of A.S. Byatt’s The Children’s Book, and the content lives up to it. I also love the US cover of Her Fearful Symmetry.
